Containment Atmosphere Monitoring Systems (CAMS)
for the Amended Rule
As of October 2003, the requirements for Combustible Gas Control in Containment changed the Oxygen and Hydrogen Analyzers from Safety Category 1 to Categories 2 and 3 (Amended Rule 10CFR 50.44).
Meggitt Safety Systems has developed a new CAMS system for plant operators ready to incorporate a system consistent with the amended rule. The new system design achieves a significant cost reduction while retaining functionality equivalent to that offered by Meggitt Category 1 CAMS.
The system is arranged into two assemblies, a Remote Control Center and a Sample Station Assembly. The Remote includes a PLC based control and conditioning assembly (not shown), a touch screen display and system switch panel. The Remote Center is designed for mild environment locations and the Sample Station is designed for operation in the harsh post accident conditions.
Components within the local sample station are limited to only those required to extract, measure and return sample to containment. Interconnect between the assemblies is electrical only. All signals are robust and low impedance requiring no special cabling beyond normal considerations for analog signals. Packaging options are available that include free-standing enclosures or permit re-use of existing free-standing enclosures.
